Late rally leads Bearcats over Bulldogs

Coach Kevin Bearden’s Bainbridge High School Bearcats junior varsity baseball team rallied for two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning here Tuesday night to pull out a 6-5 come-from-behind victory over the Liberty County, Fla., High School Bulldogs.

The victory came in the final day of the two-day junior varsity portion of the Bearcats’ annual varsity and junior varsity wood bat tournament at Bearcat Field.

Right-hander Ben Day picked up the victory and left fielder Grayson Heard and first baseman Reid Willis had key RBI singles during the winning rally.

Also contributing to the victory with key at bats and solid fielding performances were third baseman Cabe Rathel, right fielder Hayden Godwin, second baseman Cole Thomas, catcher Blake Merchant and center fielder Shawon Gardner,

Coach Bearden and fellow middle school coach Troy Thomas said they thought their team did a good overall job in the tournament and executed fundamentals well.

The Bearcats won two of three games in the tournament.

On Monday, they defeated Liberty County 9-8 and bowed 6-4 to the Thomas County Central High School junior varsity Yellow Jackets.
