Three Bearcats make first-team All-Region

The naming of Bainbridge High School Bearcats senior left-hander Marty Anderson as Region 1AAAA pitcher of the year highlighted the coaches All-Region 1AAAA baseball team released this week.

Anderson was joined on the All-Region 1AAAA first team by two Bearcats teammates, sophomore first baseman Blake Voyles and senior catcher Drew Kelley.

The player of the year was middle infielder Dalton Carriker of the Houston County High School Bears and the coach of the year was Rob Williams of the Lee County High School Trojans.

Anderson, who will be attending Abraham Agricultural College in Tifton on a baseball scholarship, received the Bearcats outstanding pitcher award.

He appeared in 59 innings and had an outstanding 2.74 earned run average. He struck out 63 and walked just 17 for an outstanding 4-to-1 strikeout-to-walk ratio.

Voyles, who received the John Hambrick Batting Average Award, named for a former Bearcat who lost his life in a drowning accident, played in 25 games and hit an outstanding .507 with 25 singles, 5 doubles, 4 home runs and 19 runs batted in.

Kelley, who won the Bearcats Golden Glove Award, which goes each year to the Bearcats most outstanding fielder, will be attending Valdosta State University on a baseball scholarship. He also had an outstanding offensive year, hitting .421.

Among those on the All-Region 1AAAA first team with Anderson, Voyles, Kelley and Carriker were middle infielder Jesus Monserrat, third baseman Cole McArthur and outfielder Aaron Jones of the Northside Warner Robins High School Eagles.

Also on the All-Region 1AAAA first team were outfielder Pedro Cruz of the Lee County High School Trojans, Dylan Brittingham of the Northside Columbus High School Patriots, starting pitcher Logan Robinson of the Hardaway of Columbus High School Golden Hawks, relief pitcher Louis Foss of Houston County High School Bears and designated hitter Kyle Griffin of the Warner Robins High School Demons.

Among those named to the All-Region 1AAAA second team were middle infielders Nathan Dempsey of Warner Robins and Seth Corbitt of the Thomas County Central High School Yellow Jackets, first baseman Brady Hamilton of Northside Columbus and third baseman Clint Wynn of Houston County.

Also on the All-Region 1AAAA second team were outfielder Schafer Suggs of Warner Robins, outfielder Will Griggs of Hardaway, outfielder Garrett Kline of Houston County, catcher Josh Anthony of Hardaway and designated hitter Nate Gray of Thomas County Central.

On the second team All-Region 1AAAA pitching staff were starters Kris Lee of Thomas County Central and Bryce Traughber of Warner Robins.

Honorable mention All-Region 1AAAA selections include middle infielders Chase Patrick of Lee County and Devin Jackson of Hardaway, first baseman Tyler Hall of Houston County and third baseman Matt Kile of Warner Robins and Daniel Nichols of Lee County.

Also named honorable mention All-Region 1AAAA were outfielders Cody Price of Warner Robins, Adam Choice and Devyn Newberry of Thomas County Central and Zach Coatney of Houston County.

Rounding out the honorable mention All-Region 1AAAA selections were catchers Logan Holland of Thomas County Central, Chase Griffin of Lee County and starting pitchers Chris Cobb of Northside Columbus and Austin Wallace and Dalton Tucker of Houston County.
