BHS wrestlers strong on the road

The Bainbridge High School Bearcats wrestling team has been on an extended travel period since returning from the holidays.

They first traveled to Albany where they defeated the Dougherty High School Trojans, Pelham High School Hornets and Monroe High School Tornadoes.

During the Albany competition, they got outstanding performances from Cole Bulger in the 112-pound weight division, Brian Ordonez in the 135-pound weight division, Hunter Long in the 130-pound weight division, Miguel Barron in the 125-pound weight division, Lawrence Jones in the 215-pound weight division and Javier Alverez in the 285-pound weight division.

The Bearcats then took on the Thomas County Central High School Yellow Jackets on the road.

They lost by a narrow margin but had strong performances from Cole Bulger, Brian Ordononez, Jacob Trawick, in the 171-pound weight division, Agapito Estala in the 145-pound weight division and Tyler Pollock in the 140-pound weight division.

On Jan. 13, the Bearcats traveled to Cairo to take on Central’s Yellow Jackets and the homestanding Cairo High School Syrupmakers.

The Bearcats avenged their earlier loss to the Yellow Jackets by defeating them and narrowly lost to the Syrupmakers.

Cole Bulger Kole Gilbourn, Brian Ordonez, Javier Alverez and Lawrence Jones all won both of their matches in their respective weight classes. Other strong performances were turned in by Jacob Trawick, Hunter Long and Tyler Pollock.

The Bearcats returned back to Albany on Jan. 18 to take on the Crisp County High School Cougars, Monroe and Dougherty.

They eventually wrestled Crisp County and Albany, defeating them in both matches.

The middle weight divisions were outstanding again with Cole Bulger, Kole Gilbourn and Brian Ordonez winning both of their matches.

The Bearcats will complete their regular season with matches in Lee County and Colquitt County next Tuesday and Friday and competition in the Cairo Classic Tournament Saturday.

They will then travel to Lee County for the Region 1AAAA championship on Feb. 5. Sectionals will be Feb. 11 and 12 at Upson Lee High School in Thomaston, and those who qualify will travel to the state championship Feb. 17, 18 and 19 in Gwinnett County.
