Balanced scoring paces Bearcat win

The Bainbridge High School Bearcats used a balanced scoring attack, featuring five men in double figures, Tuesday night to defeat the Randolph-Clay High School Red Devils 82-55 in Cuthbert and improve their season record to 15-2.

“We did a good job,” Head Coach Rickey McCullough said after the game. “Randolph-Clay always has good teams and we knew we would have to play well to win.”

Devon Baulkman led the way with a game-high 20 points. Also in double figures for the Bearcats were Rodney Glenn with 15, Paul Chukes with 14, Trea Kelly with 11 and Ronald Crawford with 10.

The game was close early. The Bearcats led by just one, 16-15, at the end of the first quarter.

They outscored their hosts 19-8 in the second quarter to walk off with a 35-23 halftime lead. They would not lead by below double digits the rest of the way.

In the third quarter, the Bearcats out scored the Red Devils 24-12 to go out front 59-35 entering the fourth quarter.

Completing the Bearcats’ scoring chart Tuesday night were Rohan Gaines with five, D.J. Stubbs with three and Rashad Kelly and B.J. Cheatem with two apiece.

Tim Stringer Davis was high for the Red Devils with 13. Shanquille Nunally added 11 and DeJuan Gilbert put in 10.

Also contributing to the Red Devils scoring effort were Malcolm Jones with eight. Terrance Gilbert and Cardaryle Curry with four apiece, Ryan Wiggins with three and Cavelius Bennett with two apiece.

The Bearcats hosted the Lincoln High School Trojans from Tallahassee, Fla., last night and they will host the Cairo High School Syrupmakers tonight at 7:30 p.m.

Prior to tonight’s game, Coach Larry Cosby’s 2010 Region 1AAAA and State Class AAAA track team will be honored.
