Basketball teams win 3 of 4

The Bainbridge High School Bearcats and Lady Cats basketball teams won three of four holiday tournament games this week.

Coach Rickey McCullough’s Bearcats, playing in the Capital City Holiday Classic at Florida A&M University in Tallahassee, Fla., posted a 63-56 Wednesday overtime victory over Tallahassee’s Chiles High School behind a strong effort by forward Devon Baulkman.

Coach Latreisha Moon’s Lady Cats, playing in Tift County High School’s McDonald’s Invitational Classic at the Tift County gymnasium, won 64-55 over the homestanding Tift County High School Lady Blue Devils on Tuesday behind strong efforts by guard April Thomas, and forwards Bria Harris and Brianna Wade.

On Wednesday, the Lady Cats bowed 62-43 to the 12-0 Lowndes County High School Vikettes.

Courtne Washington turned in a double-double for the Vikettes, scoring 16 points and pulling down 12 rebounds. Natalia Adams scored 15 for the Vikettes.

The Bearcats concluded holiday tournament play on Thursday with a 74-47 victory over Tallahassee’s Leon High School Lions. They were again led by Baulkman.

The Bearcats, who are 9-2, and the Lady Cats, who are 7-4, will return to regular season play when they host Baker County High School Tuesday at the Bainbridge High School gymnasium. The Lady Cats game will begin at 6 p.m. and the Bearcats game will get underway at 7:30 p.m.

They will host the Colquitt County High School Lady Packers and Packers on Friday.

Next Saturday, the Bearcats will travel to Tallahassee for a 5:30 p.m. with the Lincoln High School Trojans.
