Bearcats sweep two in Subway Shootout

Coach Rickey McCullough’s Bainbridge High School Bearcats basketball team had a couple of big wins over the weekend at the Subway Shootout at Chipola College in Marianna, Fla.
On Friday, they defeated the Interlachen (Fla.) High School Rams 69-62 and on Saturday they defeated the shootout’s hosts, the Marianna High School Bulldogs, 67-56.
Leading the way for the Bearcats against Interlachen were Devon Baulkman with 22 points, Rodney Glenn with 17 and Dontavius Marshall with 10.
Rounding out the Bearcats scoring column against the Rams were Jamar Venisee-Cosby and Trea Kelly with 6 points apiece, Ronald Crawford with four and Shawn Samuels with two.
Tarick Williams of the Rams took game-high scoring honors with 37 points. The Bearcats led 19-13 at the end of the first quarter, 31-28 at halftime and 51-39 after three quarters.
In Saturday’s win over Marianna, the Bearcats were led by Marshall with 14 points and Baulkman with 13.
The Bulldogs’ Tre Jackson took game-high scoring honors with 16. Jackson’s teammate, Kruize Pinkins, scored 13.
The Bearcats trailed the Bulldogs 13-11 after one quarter but roared back to outscore them 28-11 in the second quarter to take a 39-24 halftime lead.
The Bearcats continued their hot shooting in the third quarter, outscoring the Bulldogs 13-11 to take a 52-35 lead into the fourth quarter.
The only quarter during which the Bulldogs had the scoring edge was the fourth, when they scored 21 and held the Bearcats to 15.
