Middle school basketball opens

The Bainbridge Middle School seventh and eighth grade Bearcats and Lady Cats basketball teams opened their seasons last week with a victory, a tie, and two losses.

On Tuesday, Nov. 9 the seventh grade Bearcats and Lady Cats posted a road split against Thomas County Central Middle School. The eighth grade teams had a Thursday, Nov. 11 home tie and loss against Pelham Middle School.

Against TCC Middle, the seventh grade Bearcats, coached by Patrick Clark, won 37-16 and the Lady Cats, coached by Latoya Ross, bowed 37-11.

Leading the way for the Bearcats was Tyree Crump with eight points each.

Rounding out the scoring chart for the Bearcats were Jaquez Smith and Jeantavious Jeanty with seven points apiece, Kemron Pugh, Dayquis Hampton and Myles Thomas, all with four, Jaykari Rozier with two and Jadarius Murphy with one.

Coach Clark said he was impressed with his team’s effort against Central.

“Every one of the players performed admirably and the win was very deserving for my team,” he said.

Coach Ross’s Lady Cats were led by Alexis Gaines with eight points. Asia Gordon scored three.

The eighth grade Bearcats were led by Jalen Belin and Trey Miller with 11 points apiece.

On Thursday, Nov. 11, Coach Heith Maxwell’s eighth grade Bearcats and the Pelham’s eighth grade Hornets battled to a 38-38 tie at the Decatur County Memorial Coliseum. The game was stopped because middle school athletic events cannot go past 7 p.m. on a school night. The Lady Hornets defeated the Lady Cats 40-5.
