Seventh grade championship Wednesday

The Bainbridge Middle School Bearcats and Thomas County Central Middle School Yellow Jackets will play for the Southwest Georgia seventh-grade football championship today at 5 p.m. at Central’s Jackets’ Nest Stadium.

The Bearcats, who, like the Yellow Jackets, were 5-1 during the regular season, are coached by seventh-grade football coordinator David Kirkland, Chip Ariail, Heith Maxwell and Scott Miller.

The teams split their two regular season games.

The Yellow Jackets won 8-0 in the season opener on Sept. 2 at Jackets’ Nest Stadium and the Bearcats won 14-12 on Oct. 13 at Centennial Field.

The home field for today’s championship game was determined by a coin flip.

The Bearcats offense features tackles Austin White and Daniel Poitevint, guards Ty Cook and Jarrold Griffin, tight ends Bo Phillips, Russell Wheeler and Dylan Griner, quarterback Tyree Crump, running backs Rodney Register and Trey Stubbs and wide receivers Myles Thomas and Jose Garcia.

On defense the Bearcats feature tackles Kelsey Griffin and Treyvon Shaw, ends Mency Sanders and Timothy Bennett, inside linebackers Elsamar Williams and Mitchell Murrell, outside linebackers Trey Stubbs and Jordan Martin, cornerbacks Myron Jacobs and Tyree Crump and safety Rodney Register.
