Bainbridge High School Bearcats head football coach Ed Pilcher liked the overall play of his defensive unit in Friday night’s 14-7 Region 1AAAA loss to the Houston County High School Bears at Centennial Field.

“Our defense played well except for one drive,” Pilcher said Monday morning.

The drive the Bearcats head coach was referring to was a 10-play 57-yard forurh quarter drive that ended with a 19-yard touchdown run by running back Ron Brown.

Hunter Heck kicked the extra point giving the Bears their final 14-7 victory margin.

Pilcher said the Bearcats offense had too many missed blocks both on the line and in the backfield.

“We had missed blocks in key situations and it seemed like it was a different player each time,” the Bearcats head coach said. “That is what was so frustrating.

“Offensively, we moved the ball well in the first half, but Houston County shut us down in the second half.”

Pilcher said punt and kickoff returner Shhawn Samuels, 57-yard kickoff return following the Bears go ahead touchdown almost got the Bearcats back even.

“Shawn Samuels made an excellent kickoff return,” Pilcher said. “The kicker, the last man who could have gotten him, just knocked him out of bounds.”
