Lady Cougars ready for Final 4

Coach Erwin Harrell’s Panhandle Christian Conference Eastern Region regular season champion Grace Christian Academy Lady Cougars will be playing this weekend in the Conference Final 4 Championship Tournament in Dothan, Ala.

The tournament gets underway Friday and concludes Saturday on the campus of Dothan’s Emmanuel Christian School Warriors.

The Lady Cougars dropped a heartbreaking 3-2 decision to Emmanuel in the Conference’s East Regional Tournament Friday in a match that lasted two and a half hours at Grace’s Perry Memorial Gymnasium.

The Lady Cougars, the Eastern Region regular season champions, drew a bye into the Eastern Region championship game. They split a pair of 3-2 Eastern Region regular season matches with Emmanuel.

In the Eastern Regional final, against Emmanuel, the Lady Cougars were led by Brock Bailey, who had 17 kills, Leah Smith, who had 8 kills and 5 ace serves, Melissa Mills, who had 9 assists and Emma Heard, who had 7 assists.

They will face Central Christian School of Robertsdale, Ala., the West Region’s number one team Friday at 7 p.m. in the Final 4.

Four Lady Cougars made the All Conference team. Seniors Brock Bailey and Sydney Harrell made the first team and juniors Emma Heard and Leah Smith made the second team.

Also contributing in the East Region championship match with Emmanuel were Bailey with 9 digs and Melissa Mills with 5 digs.
