Lady Cats finish season

The Bainbridge High School Lady Cats softball team dropped a double header to the Houston County High School Lady Bears and Hardaway of Columbus High School Lady Golden Hawks Tuesday to bow out of the Region 1AAAA Sectional Tournament in Cordele.

Coach Eugene Singletary’s Lady Cats finish their season with a strong 15-8 record. On Tuesday, they dropped the first game 16-0 to Houston County, and in the night game, they were edged 12-11 by Hardaway.

The Lady Cats jumped out to a 4-1 first inning lead against Hardaway. Center fielder Brianna Wade opened the first with a single, moved up to second on a fielder’s choice and came in to score on a single by shortstop Diamond Bouie.

Bouie and first baseman Kristen Bennett, who walked, were aboard when third baseman Bria Harris blasted a three-run home run.

The Lady Cats added a run in the second to go up 5-1. It was scored by shortstop Bouie, who singled and stole second.

After the Lady Golden Hawks scored six in the third to take a 7-5 lead, the Lady Cats came up with four runs in their half of the frame to claim the lead at 9-7.

Second baseman Avis Jackson, center fielder Wade, pitcher Caitlin Cato and shortstop Bouie all singled and came around to score in the Lady Cats third.

Both teams scored two in the fifth and the Bearcats remained out front by two, 11-9.

The Lady Cats’ fifth began with a single by Wade. She came in on a two-out single by Bouie, who singled and scored on a single by first baseman Bennett.

The Lady Golden Hawks scored three in the seventh to put the game away.
