Grace soccer beats Byne

The Grace Christian Academy Cougars soccer team defeated the Byne Christian School Saints 5-1 Tuesday in Albany.

The Cougars have earned a bye in the first round of the Friday, Oct. 15 and Saturday, Oct. 16 Conference East Regional Tournament at the Bainbridge-Decatur County YMCA soccer field.

With only three teams in the conference’s Eastern Region, Grace will have a berth in the final on Saturday.

In their Tuesday victory over Byne, Kyle Harris scored an unassisted goal in the fifth minute to put the Cougars ahead 1-0. He scored from eight yards out after taking a rebound.

In the 37th minute, T.J. Carlisle redirected a ball with a header and Kyle Harris kicked it into the back of the net. The opening two goals were Harris’s 12th and 13th of the season.

The final three Cougars goals were scored by Chase Harris in the 52nd minute, Rachel Harrell in the 73rd minute and T.J. Carlisle in the 78th minute.

Harris’s goal, his third of the season, came on a deflected shot following a throw-in. It was assisted by Austin McQuaid.

Harrell’s goal, her first of the season, was unassisted. She scored on a deflected shot inside the six-yard box.

T.J. Carlisle closed out the Cougars scoring in the 78th minute. He scored his second goal of the season with an assist from Perra Harrell. He touched the ball into the net following a corner kick.
