The Bainbridge High School Lady Cats softball team completed their regular season Tuesday with a 16-3 victory over the Americus-Sumter County High School Lady Panthers in Americus.
The Lady Cats, who finish the season with a 15-6 record, will now advance to the state Class AAAA sectional tournament next Tuesday in Cordele. They will play the Houston County High School Lady Bears of Warner Robins at 4 p.m.
They posted all the runs they would need for Tuesday’s victory over the Lady Panthers during a four-run, top-of-the-first-inning rally.
Shortstop Brianna Wade drew a walk to open the Lady Cats’ first. Third baseman Diamond Bouie followed with a single, driving Wade around to third.
Wade came in when winning pitcher Caitlyn Cato grounded out from third to first. Bouie moved up to second, stole third and scored the second run on a fielder’s choice.
The final two first-inning runs were scored by first baseman Morgan Powell, who walked, and designated player Bria Harris, who singled and stole second.
They added six more runs in the second inning to increase their advantage to 10-0. Key blows in the inning were RBI singles by Bouie, Cato, catcher Kristen Bennett and Harris.
The Lady Panthers scored their first run in the second inning and their final two runs in the third inning.
After scoring two runs in the top of the third inning, the Lady Cats put the game away with four in the top of the fourth.
The third-inning runs were scored by Cato and Bennett, who both singled. A big blow in the fourth inning was a two run single by Cato.
