JV football loses 28-14

BAINBRIDGE HIGH SCHOOL BEARCATS junior varsity defensive back George Clemmons tackles a Thomasville High School junior varsity Bulldogs player during Thursday's game at Centennial Field.

The Bainbridge High School junior varsity football team dropped a 28-14 decision to the Thomasville High School junior varsity Bulldogs Thursday at Centennial Field.

The teams battled to a 14-14 deadlock at halftime. In the second half, when only the ninth graders played and there were no kickoffs or punts, the Bulldogs outscored the Bearcats 14-0, leaving the final score 28-14.

Running back Mario Cherry gave the Bulldogs a 7-0 lead when he ran left for 22 yards and a touchdown with 6:30 left in the first quarter.

The advantage went to 14-0 when Cheery ran left again, this time for 24 yards and a touchdown with 1:35 left in the first quarter.

The Bearcats cut the lead to 14-7 when quarterback Preston Norris threw to Terry Lewis for 10 yards and a touchdown with 3:05 left in the second quarter. Daniel Provence, who has now also been assigned to varsity kicking duties, kicked the extra point.

Lewis caught the ball in the right flat and sprinted in to score. Running back Cedric Jones set up the score with  a 10-yard run to the 10.

With 5:54 left in the third quarter, quarterback Peyton Dixon ran a yard for a touchdown to put the Bulldogs ahead 20-14. Thomasville’s Alex Crowley lined up to kick the extra point, but he was unable to get it off due to an errant snap.

The Bulldogs final touchdown of the day came on a one-yard run by running back Edward Anderson with 3:25 left in the game. Anderson also ran in for the two-point conversion.
