The fishing forecast called for tough conditions as the 15 qualified anglers got ready for the Media Bass Individual Championship on Lake Seminole, held September 11 and 12.

But local angler Brad Reynolds of Bainbridge was able to put together two solid limits to win his first individual championship.

Brad’s winning weight of 21.5 pounds netted him a first-place prize of a Skeeter SX180 bass boat with a 115-horsepower Yamaha outboard worth $25,000.

After his win had time to sink in, Reynolds said, “I can’t believe it. The fishing was tough.”

Reynolds used a combination of topwater and plastics fished around the grass to catch his limits both days.

He was reluctant to give out his secret baits and techniques when asked about specifics. He said only that he used baits that he purchased at West Side Bait and Tackle. He did promise to divulge some of his secrets after his next event in two weeks.

“It was a hard fought year for all the competitors,” said Wes Meadows, Tournament Director for the Media Bass Southeast division. “Brad definitely earned this one. He is one of our best anglers, but moreover, he is a true ambassador for the sport.”

Rounding out the top four places were John Pearson of Perry, Ga., Drew Benton of Panama City, Fla., and day one leader, Ed Wilkerson of Sneads, Fla.

The big bass honors went to Ed Wilkerson on day one with his 4.93-pound bass, and day two leader Michael Smith of Laurel Hill, Fla., with his 4.74-pound piggy. Both anglers received $140 for their efforts.

By finishing first overall for the year, Drew Benton of Panama City, Fla., took home the 2010 Angler of the Year honors.

His prize package worth an estimated $1,000 includes paid entry for the 2011 Media Bass Individuals Tournament Trail.

“We couldn’t provide this type of event, or payout, without the help of our sponsors,” Meadows said. “They are the ones helping us to provide the richest Tournament Trail in the region, and with increased exposure and participation from the anglers, it can only get better.”

This year’s Media Bass Individuals Tournament Trail national sponsors included Skeeter Bass Boats, Yamaha outboards, Pepper Custom Baits, Snag Proof and Lake Fork Tackle.

The sponsors for the Southeast Division included West Side Bait and Tackle, Big Jim’s, R&R Boat Restoration Wackem’ Crazy Baits, All Terrain Tackle, Minn Kota, Humminbird Electronics and Custom Bass Tackle.

The 2011 Media Bass Southeast Individuals season is scheduled to start up again in February 2011 with the Lake Seminole and Eufaula divisions.
