Local fisherman wins Sneads tournament

David Howell, of Bainbridge, took first place in the American Fishing Tour (AFT) Divisional Bass Tournament held on Lake Seminole, out of the Seminole Lodge in Sneads, Fla., on June 29 and June 30.

According to the American Fishing Tour’s website, Howell caught 10 bass, weighing a total of 42.16 pounds. Second place went to Len Lindahl, with a weight of 39.21 pounds. Third place was Keith Childree, with a weight of 34.81 pounds. The big bass was caught by Stan Chandler, and weighed 6.78 pounds.

Howell told AFT officials that he caught his fish on main lake humps, using a Carolina rig crankbait.

Howell took home $898 for his victory, and also earned points to try and qualify for a berth in the American Fishing Tour National Championship, which will be held in the fall.

The AFT offers low-cost bass tournaments that are designed for the weekend angler. All AFT anglers fish for money and points, and the top 500 anglers in the U.S. are invited to the national championship.

Bassmaster Weekend Series event is this weekend

There will be an American Bass Anglers Bassmaster Weekend Series tournament this Saturday, July 13, launching out of the Earle May Boat Basin in Bainbridge.

Take off will be at 6:30 a.m. or safe light, and the weigh-in will be at 2:30 p.m. The winning boater could win as much as $6,000, and the winning co-angler as much as $3,000.
