Lady Cats pick up 1st win of season

The Bainbridge High School Lady Cats varsity soccer team traveled to Albany, Ga., on Thursday, picking up their first win of the season, at Dougherty. The Lady Cats defeated the Lady Trojans, 8-1.

Bainbridge sophomore forward Longeisha Emanuel scored the first two goals of the game, in the 16th and 30th minute. Derrical Williams assisted on Emanuel’s second goal.

Sophomore forward Jennifer Becerra scored from six yards out in the 34th minute, increasing the Lady Cats’ lead to 3-0. The Lady Trojans scored their lone goal just before halftime, on a penalty kick.

Bainbridge’s Asia Irving scored in the 47th minute, with an assist from Caitlin Cato. Cato scored a goal of her own a minute later.

Williams added a goal in the 51st minute and Emanuel later scored her third goal of the game, off another assist from Cato. Cato scored her second goal in the 78th minute to close out the scoring.

“I thought we played well at times and definitely passed the ball more efficiently in the second half,” Bainbridge coach Chip Ariail said.

The Lady Cats evened their record at 1-1.

Westover JV 1

The Bainbridge girls junior-varsity team, coached by Petra Joyner, played their third game of the season Wednesday and recorded a 2-1 win over Westover at Centennial Field.

Alyiah Mitchell and Haley Thompson scored for the Lady Cats.
