Former Bainbridge High School Lady Cats point guard Briana Wade is having a solid freshman season, with the Lander University Lady Bearcats in Greenwood, S. C.

When she signed with Lander, following her senior season with the Lady Cats, Bainbridge coach Kelvin Cochran described Wade as being like a coach on the floor.

“Briana would come down the court and set up everything for us,” Cochran said. “She is a strong ball handler and shooter.”

Lander coach Kevin Pemberson said Wade is among the team’s leaders in assists this season.

“Briana is a great kid and a very talented player who is getting better and better with each game,” Pemberson said.

“During her senior season at Bainbridge, I saw Briana play in a holiday tournament in Tallahassee, Fla., and was very impressed with her ball handling, passing, general court awareness and strong team leadership. She has continued those attributes at Lander.

“She consistently finds the open player and gets the ball to her in good scoring position.”

Wade currently is averaging 23.6 minutes per game for Lander, which was 4-5 overall and 1-1 in conference play, as of Sunday. She averages 2.0 rebounds a game, and has 16 assists, which is third on the team. She averages 4.2 points per game.

As a first-team All-Region 1-AAAA performer as a Bainbridge senior in 2011-2012, Wade averaged 11.5 points, 5.1 rebounds and 4.3 assists a game.
