Ross places 5th in half marathon

Javontae Ross, the captain of coach Lisa Enfinger’s Bainbridge High School Bearcats 2012 Region 1-AAAAA champion cross country team, finished fifth at the Saturday, Dec. 15, Thomasville Red-Nose Half Marathon, with a time of 1 hour, 22 minutes. A half-marathon is approximately 13.1 miles.

Ross, who won the coaches’ award for his outstanding work ethic at the annual cross-country awards banquet, was sixth in the Region 1-AAAAA Meet in Columbus, Ga., completing the 5,000-meter (3.1-mile) course in a time of 18:19.

Ross, the son of Ricky Ross and Kriston Evans, was named winner of the BHS male Wendy’s High School Heisman Award, for the 2012-2013 school year.

He also competed in the 800-meter and 1,600-meter runs and ran a leg on the 4-by-400-meter relay, for the Bearcats’ track team.

Enfinger describes Ross as an exceptional athlete and team leader. He also played one year with the Bearcats’ soccer team, and he maintains a strong 3.4 grade-point average.
