Bearcats face tough test against Central Jackets

The Bainbridge High School Bearcats football team had a good week of practice last week, in preparation for this Friday night’s Region 1-AAAAA road showdown with the Thomas County Central High School Yellow Jackets.

That was the feeling expressed Monday by Bainbridge coach Ed Pilcher. Kickoff will be at 7:30 p.m. at Thomas County Stadium.

“With an open date last week, we practiced four days and gave the players Friday off,” Pilcher said. “The only player who could miss this week’s game is running back Michael Stubbs, who suffered a strained oblique muscle against Early County.

“If Stubbs is not able to go, running backs Tremain McCray, Isaiah Brown and Aaron Calloway could see action.

“Central runs the same split-back veer offense that we run, They are led by two excellent offensive players, quarterback Adam Choice and running back Deondre Cooksey.”

A look at Choice and Cooksey’s statistics back up Pilcher’s respect for them.

Choice has 61 carries for 335 yards, a 5.5 yards-per-carry average, six touchdowns and a long run of 39 yards.

Cooksey has 53 carries for 426 yards, an 8 yards-per-carry average, five touchdowns and a long run of 18 yards.
