Janice Rentz shows off a sample of pottery created by new Artist of the Month, Kirby Gregory, of Albany, Ga.|Carolyn Iamon

Three new artists have joined with the Southern Artists Cooperative and are currently exhibiting their wares at the Firehouse Center.

The featured new artist for the month of March is Kirby Gregory, an Albany, Ga., potter who creates utilitarian, functional and decorative pottery in earth tones.

Also exhibiting is Tanya Brouillet of Bainbridge, who is known for her jewelry artistry. She sells her one-of-a kind creations under the name, “Luv Beads.” Much of her jewelry is fashioned from tiny beads to create bracelets, evening bags, and necklaces. Her signature flower, the Calla lily, is reflected in a spectacular necklace and earrings set.

The third new artist is Dot Cook Wainright of Colquitt, Ga., who turns pressed flowers into art under the business name of “Dot’s Garden.” The framed works feature delicate flower petals, stems and leaves mounted on paper to create a floral arrangement.

Southern Artists Cooperative has been located in Bainbridge for almost five years — its fifth anniversary will be in July. It is located on the first floor of the Firehouse Center, 119 Water St., across from the Decatur County Courthouse.

Hours of operation when the public is invited to come in and browse are Thursdays and Fridays, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

An Open House is planned for Saturday, April 14, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. to introduce the cooperative’s newest members and to celebrate the 90th birthday of co-op artist Dolly McDaniel of Albany, Ga.
