RECORD ENROLLMENT at Bainbridge College shows as the bookstore at the Student Wellness Center is crowded from new students. The 4,054 students includes the 1,255 who attend the Early County Center in Blakely.

Bainbridge College (BC) and its Early County Center (BCEC) in Blakely reached two milestones with the start of Spring Semester 2011.

The college marked a record enrollment of more than 4,000 students, with more than 1,250 at BCEC, and it welcomed Richard Carvajal as its new president, succeeding retired President Tom Wilkerson.

“We are thrilled to be meeting the needs of the citizens of southwest Georgia,” said President Carvajal, who comes to BC from Cascadia Community College in Bothell, Wash. “More and more students are realizing each term that they can meet their educational and career goals at their community’s college.”

Those 4,054 students included 1,255 at BCEC.

The head count of full-time students was 2,326, with 352 of them at BCEC. This is the largest semester enrollment in BC’s history, and another record of Spring Semester having more students than Fall Semester, which usually has the most.

Classes started Jan. 10 on the main campus and were delayed by weather at BCEC until Jan. 11.
