Funeral services for Katie Kelly Cook, 88, of Panama City, Fla., will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2012, at Heritage Funeral Home in Panama City. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service.

Burial will be a private service at Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola, Fla.

Known to her friends as “Miss Katie” and her great-grandchildren as “Grandma Katie,” she passed away Friday, Feb. 10, 2012, at a Panama City nursing facility.

Katie was born in Bainbridge and had lived in Panama City since 2004. She was retired from the State of Georgia. She served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a Navy Wave. She was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Bainbridge. She was a charter member of the Women’s Memorial Foundation.

Katie was preceded in death by her husband Coy E. Cook Jr., her parents and six siblings.

She is survived by a daughter, Nancy Lindsey (Joe Carl) and son, David Cook (LeeAnn) of Tallahassee. Grandchildren include Michael Hobbs (Stephanie) and Matt Hobbs of Panama City, Coy Cook (Robin) of Thomasville, Elizabeth Morris (Jimmy) of Tallahassee, step-granddaughter Brandi Garrett (David) of Warner Robins, Ga., granddaughter-in-law Bridgette Hobbs of Panama City; eight-great-grandchildren, Matthew, Nicholas, Haley and Trey Hobbs of Panama City, Will Cook of Thomasville, Trace Morris of Tallahassee, Cameron and Baylor Garrett of Warner Robins. Survivors also include five nieces and nephews, and two special nieces, Eleanor Richardson of Cullman, Ala., and Bunny Brock of Bainbridge.

In lieu of flowers you may make a donation in Katie’s name to the Women’s Memorial Foundation, Washington, D.C.

Heritage Funeral Home in Panama City is in charge of the arrangements.
