Curtis Kennedy Jr., 60, formerly of Bainbridge, passed away Thursday, Nov. 10, after a lengthy illness at his residence in Bremen, Ga.

Mr. Kennedy was born Sept. 30, 1951, to the late Mr. Curtis Kennedy Sr. and Elisabeth Kennedy Smith of Bainbridge. Curtis served in the U.S. Army, completed training at Fort Benning, and was deployed to Vietnam in the Infantry and Ground Combat Forces. He received several accreditations in his years of service. He returned to Bainbridge in October 1971.

He worked at South Georgia Granite Company with Ed and Gene Hall as a stone mason. He helped design and build the Alday Family Lot, located in Seminole County, Ga., in 1973. He then relocated to the west Atlanta area where he continued his trade. He also contracted with the Martin Luther King Foundation to preserve Dr. King’s mausoleum over the years. He volunteered countless times to restore Confederate cemeteries around Atlanta, and cemetery lots of family members.

Survivors include his wife, Loretta, of Bremen, Ga.; his daughter, Melani Jeanine Kennedy of Austell, Ga.; his three brothers, Steve of Indonesia, Michael of Tennessee, and Jimmy of Colorado; his sister, Jolene Smith of Tennessee; and his former wife, Jeanine Kennedy Weeks of Bainbridge.

A memorial service will be announced at a future date.
