Funeral services for William Braxton Tillis, 66, of Cairo, were held Tuesday, Sept. 8, at Clark Funeral Home with Pastor Doug McGhee officiating.

Interment followed at Union Springs Cemetery in Whigham, Ga., with R.B. Gainous, Clyde Orender, David Coleman, Doug Stewart, Cary Rehberg and Wally Smith serving as active pallbearers. 

Born March 19, 1943, in Greenville, Fla., Mr. Tillis died Saturday, Sept. 5, 2009, at his residence.

Mr. Tillis was the retired circulation manager for the Atlanta newspaper and was a member of Faith Christian Center.

He was preceded in death by his parents; by a brother, Ira Oliver; and by sisters, Jennie Tillis Bodley and Betty Jean Oliver Day.

Survivors include his wife, Lavonia Singletary Tillis of Cairo; two sons, Mark Tillis and Jason Tillis, both of Newnan, Ga.; a daughter, Lisa Bable of Southaven, Miss.; and four grandchildren.

Clark Funeral Home in Cairo was in charge of funeral arrangements.
