Funeral services for Daisy Lee Wooden, 85, of Whigham, Ga., will be held Wednesday, Oct. 14, at 11 a.m. at Cedar Spring A.M.E. Church in Whigham with the Rev. Timothy White and Bishop James Wooden officiating.

Interment will follow in the church’s cemetery with Brian Sanders, Jimmy Sanders Jr., Eric Wooten, Tony Willis, Gary Dawson and Kelvin Wooten serving as active pallbearers.

Born Sept. 14, 1924, in Dixie, Ga., Mrs. Wooden died on Oct. 8, 2009, at Grady General Hospital in Cairo, Ga.

Mrs. Wooden attended school in Quitman, Ga., before moving to Grady County, where she lived most of her life, working as a housewife. She was a member of Cedar Springs A.M.E. Church in Whigham.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ira Wooden Sr.

Survivors include five sons, Eddie Wooden of Philadelphia, Pa., Jerry Wooden of Miami, Fla., Lewis Wooden of Huntsville, Ala., James Wooden of Cairo, and Ira Wooden Jr. and Gary Wooden, both of Whigham; three daughters, Claudia Morris of Riviera, Calif., Hazel Sanders of Bainbridge and Marie Durden of Louisville, Ky.; a brother, Ezekiel Brown of Whigham; a sister, Onabelle Vinson of Bronx, N.Y.; 20 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Cloud and Son Funeral Home in Cairo is in charge of arrangements.
