Funeral services for Mother Lillie Mae Fountain, 90, of Rochester, N.Y., formerly of Decatur County, were held Saturday, Nov. 14, at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. John Wooden officiating and the Rev. Douglas Smith eulogizing.

Interment followed in Jonas Lobe Cemetery in Bainbridge with the James O. Smith Jr., Willie F. Davis Jr., Douglas Smith Jr., Patrick Beard, Ronnie Smith, Alex Beard, Franklin Brock, Reginald Robinson, Gregory Smith, Michael Brock, Kenneth Davis, Eric Fountain, Lewis Beard, Isaac Lawhorn, William Alex Smith and Herbert Smith serving as active pallbearers.

Born Aug. 17, 1919, in Decatur County, Mrs. Fountain died on Nov. 8, 2009, in Rochester, N.Y.

Mrs. Fountain, born Lillie Mae Close, attended Decatur County schools. While in Decatur County, she was an active member of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church. She worked in several different fields, including industrial occupations and housekeeping, before retiring as a dietitian with Memorial Hospital in Bainbridge. Upon relocating to Rochester, N.Y., she became a member of the Emmanuel Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of her son, the Rev. Dr. Douglas Smith.

She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Henry, Jobe, James, Philemon and Abraham Close; two sisters, Eddie Lou Dixon and Adell Monroe; two children, Martha and Malcolm Fountain; and two husbands, Willie A. Smith Sr. and Deacon K.C. Fountain.

Survivors include five sons, the Rev. Douglas Smith, the Rev. James Smith, Willie A. Smith Jr. and Carl Fountain, all of Rochester, and Andrew Fountain of Whigham, Ga.; two daughters, Mary Louis Beard of Rochester and Shirley Ann Davis of Lakewood, N.J.; three sisters, Molly Gadson of Bainbridge and Maybell Jackson and Thelma Sallye of Tampa, Fla.; two brothers, Frank Close of Tallahassee, Fla., and Joe Louis Close of Rochester; two sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, great-great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and church family.
