Coach Eugene Singletary’s Bainbrridge Lady Cats softball team evened their record at 1-1 Thursday night, with a 7-5 victory over visiting Brooks County.

In Tuesday night’s season opener in Bainbridge, Crisp County scored six runs in the sixth inning to break a 6-6 tie, on the way to a 13-7 victory over the Lady Cats.

After the Thursday win,  Singletary said he was proud of the way his team battled back.

“The young ladies really got some key hits for us down the stretch,” he said.

Right hander Caitlin Cato pitched the complete-game win, scattering just three hits.

In Thursday’s game with the Lady Trojans, the Lady Cats scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth to break a 5-5 tie and pull out the victory. Third baseman Diamond Bouie opened the decisive sixth inning, with a line-drive triple down the left field line. Shortstop Briana Wade followed with a walk and both runners scored on a single to center by catcher Kristen Bennett.

Bainbridge was one of five teams that began play in the Bainbridge High School Fast-Pitch Invitational tournament, which started Friday, Aug. 12, and continues through Saturday, Aug. 13. The Lady Cats will travel to play Thomasville on Tuesday at 6 p.m., and play at Brooks County on Thursday at 6 p.m.

Crisp County 13, Bainbridge 7

A two run single by Crisp County centerfielder Julia Davis broke a 6-6 tie in the sixth inning Tuesday, putting the visiting Lady Cougars ahead to stay.

The Lady Cats scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a 4-1 lead.

Bouie and Wade opened the inning with back-to-back singles to left. Centerfielder Caitlin Cato followed with a single to center, driving in Bouie and moving Wade around to third.

Catcher Kristen Bennett then grounded to second and Wade crossed the plate, putting the Lady Cats up 2-1.

Right fielder Laura Griner was hit by a pitch and her sister, first baseman Lindsey Griner, singled to drive in Cato for the third run of the inning. Laura Griner moved to third on the play, and later scored the fourth run on a wild pitch.

A preliminary game between the Bainbridge and Crisp County junior varsity teams ended in a 3-3 tie.

Bainbridge first baseman Summer Strickland and right fielder Brit Moore both singled and scored for the Lady Cats in the second. Left fielder Jordan Graham singled and scored for the Lady Cats in the fifth.
