Funeral services for Howard Benjamin “Junior” Barrett, 91, of Cairo, Ga., were at 11 a.m., Monday, February 18, 2019, at the Cairo Church of God. Pastor DeWayne Atkinson officiated. Interment followed in Greenwood Cemetery, Cairo. Mr. Barrett passed away at Archbold Memorial Hospital in Thomasville, Ga, on Saturday, February 16, 2019.

Active pallbearers will be Allen Barrett, Kevin Salter, Josh Ward, A.J. Childs, Jaevyn Salter and Nestor Candelaria.

Mr. Barrett was born on August 28, 1927, in Cairo, to the late Howard B. Barrett, Sr. and Alma Cassels Barrett. He served his country in the United States Army in the Philippines and Korea. On November 20, 1954, he married Judy Gainous Barrett, who survives. He retired as the partner of Georgia Diesel as a diesel mechanic. He loved to fish and hunt and being outdoors. Junior worked hard and loved to use his hands. He spent time reading his Bible and spending time with his family. He was a member of the Cairo Church of God.

Survivors include: his wife of 64 years, Judy Gainous Barrett of Cairo; daughters, Sharon Ward (Dennis) of Cairo, Karon Salter (Garry) of Cairo; daughter-in-law, Cynthia Barrett of Cairo; grandchildren, Krista Candelaria (Nestor), Amanda Salter, Allen Barrett (Candace), Candace Childs (A.J.), Kevin Salter (Ashley), Brittani Buckner, Josh Ward, all of Cairo; great-grandchildren, Jaevyn Salter, Kenzlea Candelaria, Rylee Scott, Kaylee Barrett, Kady Childs, Peyton Salter, Kameron Moye, Avery Salter, Eli Candelaria, Rainee Buckner, Andy Childs, all of Cairo; sister, Helen Cunningham (Hugh) of Cairo; and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; his son, Benjamin Allen “Benny” Barrett, Sr.; his great-grandson, Max Candelaria; sisters, Onita Trammel, Vandy Dollar, Doris Billings, Bernice Hopkins; and a brother, Jewel Barrett.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Mr. Barrett’s memory to: Cairo Church of God Building Fund, 301 Pavilion Road, Cairo, GA 39828.

The family will receive friends at the Cairo Church of God on Monday, February 18, 2019, from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m.
