Lucy Belle Dennard

Lucy Belle Dennard, 97, of Climax, Georgia, passed away on Wednesday, September 14, 2016, at Bainbridge Memorial Hospital.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 17, 2016, at Climax Baptist Church with Pastor Steve Poppell and Rev Stanley Phillips officiating. Troy Butler, Brad Dodson, Marty Butler, Jeff Rich and Tony Dodson serving as active pallbearers. Interment will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Climax. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service beginning at 10 a.m.

Mrs. Dennard was born July 3, 1919, in Brunswick, Ga. the daughter of the late James H. Phillips and the Ellie Worne Phillips. She graduated from Climax High School and  was the owner of Belle’s Beauty Shop in Climax for 60 plus years. She was a member of Climax Baptist Church, also active in the Golden Agers and WMU. Mrs Belle was a founding member of the Climax Community Club and Swine Time Festival.

She is survived by her daughter, Gloria Jean Dennard Scarbrough of Climax; her grandchildren Tim Scarbrough, Dwalla Harrell, Lawanna Maples; Great-grandchildren Brittnee LaFord, Blake Harrell, Brandi Harrell, John Willis Maples, Chase Harrell and her great-great-grandchildren Rosie and Damien LaFord.

She is preceded in death by her husband LaRue Dennard, sister Evelyn Phillips Dodson, brother Carl Jack Phillips (who was killed in action).

Faith Funeral Home of Havana, Fla. is in charge of arrangements.
