Gretta Mae Kinchen

Gretta, Mom, Grandma Gretta, “GG”. She left us on May 20, 2016.

She had lunch prepared, cookies for her grandchildren and birthday presents on the counter. She had it all ready and laid down.

She was happy and had fun thoughts of her grandchildren on her mind as she  closed her eyes that last time. God rest her soul.

Formerly of Bainbridge, then a resident of Tallahassee, Fla., Gretta, was born June 28, 1954, at Otis Air Force Base in Massachusetts. She graduated from Florida State University with a double major in Communications and Theatre. She later graduated from Florida State University with a Master’s in Library Science. She worked as an Insurance Professional throughout her life.

Her interests were theatre, writing, reading fiction and Shakespeare and wind surfing. She devoted much of her life to raising her girls and earning her education independently.

She was a beautiful, bright woman, insightful, sensitive and full of many creative talents. She would often say her “biggest achievements were her daughters,” and loved them and her grandchildren deeply.

Gretta is survived by her mother, Florence Frazier Carter; a sister, Leisa Dean and  brother, Lesley Kinchen, both of Bainbridge; daughters, Suzanne Dodson Kilgore and Dr. Heather Marie Prather and their spouses, Brian Kilgore and Joel Prather; three grandchildren, Emily Kate Kilgore, Cole Dodson Kilgore and Jackson Cole Prather; nieces, nephews and extended family.

She was preceded in death by her father, Carlton “Carl” M. Kinchen, of Bainbridge.

Private memorial services will be held at a later date.
