Funeral services for James Edward Dorough Jr., 72, of Lexington, Ky., were held Friday, March 25, at Southland Christian Church Chapel in Lexington.

The family had a private burial service.

Mr. Dorough was born Oct. 12, 1938, in Fernandina Beach, Fla., and died March 23, 2011, at his home with his family by his side.

He was a former resident of Bainbridge, Ga., and after graduating from Southern Tech in Georgia as a civil engineer, he moved to Lexington, Ky., where he resided until his death. He will be remembered as the owner of Lexington Mechanical Company from 1980 until he sold the business in 1998. His great love for boating and fishing on Herrington Lake led him to preside over the Herrington Lake Conservation League in 2001.

He was predeceased by his mother, Celeste Smith Dorough, and his father, James Edward Dorough Sr.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Phoebe Porter Dorough; his three children, Angie Humphrey and her husband, Barry, Meg Schuler and her husband, David, and Jed Dorough III and his wife, Laurie. He is also survived by his 11 grandchildren, Alan, Haden, Megan, Jacob, Lizzie, Jack, Phoebe, Patrick James, Abby, Jake and Anna Beth; and two siblings, Jack Dorough and his wife, Jane, and Deanna Alford and her husband, Fred.
