Funeral services for David C. Gaines, 84, Macon, Ga., were held Monday, Feb. 28, at Pine Forest Baptist Church in Macon with Dr. Norm Yukers and the Rev. Keith Gaines officiating.

Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery in Fitzgerald, Ga.

Mr. Gaines was born Jan. 23, 1927, in Ben Hill County, Ga., to the late John Franklin Gaines and Mary Padgett Gaines. He died Feb. 24, 2011.

He served as a Deacon at Glenwood Hills Baptist Church for many years, where he also taught Sunday School, and at Pine Forest Baptist Church for the past 33 years. He served his country during World War II with the 304th Signal Battalion, 8th Army in Yokohama, Japan. He was retired from Georgia Kraft, and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Gwynell Dobbins Gaines; a grandson, Brandon Heath Barron Gaines; a granddaughter, Shannon Briggs; and siblings, M. Clifford Gaines, Annie Gaines Robitzsch, J.B. Gaines, Irene Gaines Kimball and Frank Gaines.

Survivors include his wife of 20 years, Nell Davis Gaines of Lizella; sons, Stephen Lee Gaines Sr. and Dorothy of Warner Robins, Ronald L. Gaines and Sheila of Lizella, the Rev. M. Keith Gaines and Dianne of Albany; step-daughters, Cecilia Murkerson and Jerry of Hawkinsville, Debra Chatraw and Van of Huntsville, Ala., and Barbara McNair and Randall of Cordele, Ga.; stepson, Clay Davis and Denise of Savannah, Ga.; 50 grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Hart’s Mortuary and Crematory at the Cupola was in charge of the arrangements.
