Percy Bland

A memorial service for Percy Bland, 71, of Donalsonville, Ga., was held Sunday, Jan. 30, in the chapel of Evans-Skipper Funeral Home in Donalsonville.

Mr. Bland was born in Mobile, Ala., on June 23, 1939, and died Jan. 27, 2011, at Southeast Alabama Medical Center in Dothan, Ala. He attended Salem Seminole Baptist Church and was a self-employed auto mechanic.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Berma Braswell Bland; one brother, Dennis Bland, and two sisters, Joyce Kay Bland and Lucy Bland Thomas.

Survivors include his wife, Joy Bland of Donalsonville; four sons, Darin Bland of Houston, Texas, Ray Bland of Dothan, Lamar Bland of Panama City, Fla., and John Lynn of Donalsonville; one daughter, Kay Greenwood of Elkin, N.C.; one brother, Tommy “Peanut” Bland of Donalsonville; four sisters, Bessie Maxwell of Donalsonville, Lena Bellflower and Louise Carson, both of Brinson, Ga., and Alice Bland Porter of Bainbridge, Ga. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Evans-Skipper Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
