The family of Sue Morris regrets to announce her passing on October 1, 2020 in Colquitt, Ga.

Funeral services were held on October 3, 2020 at Jakin United Methodist Church in Jakin, Ga. Interment will follow at Friendship Memorial Gardens in Donalsonville, Ga. with her grandsons serving as active casket bearers. Due to the ongoing Covid-19 Pandemic the family has decided to have a private service.

Mrs. Morris was born in Early County, Ga., near Howard’s Mill, and was the daughter of the late Emmitte D. and Earnestine McLendon Hill. She attended school at Jakin High School, where she graduated as valedictorian. In later years she attended continuing education classes at Bainbridge College. Mrs. Morris was the first woman to serve on the Seminole County Board of Education, and at her death was an Honorary Lifetime Member of that board.

In her early years she worked in accounting at Southern Bell in Jacksonville, Fla. After returning to Georgia, she was the chaplain secretary at Southern Airways School and worked there until its closure. She worked in the insurance industry with Whittaker Ins. Agency in Donalsonville, was employed as a Medical Transcriptionist at Donalsonville Hospital and was office manager for Dr. Linda Jones in Bainbridge.

Mrs. Morris was a faithful member of Jakin United Methodist Church. She was active in the church, holding various offices. She loved her Lord and Savior and was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She dedicated her life to the Lord and her family.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husbands C.W. Burke and Jimmie Morris,; son Russ Burke; son-in-law Nicky Cox; sisters Betty Jo Clarke and Elaine Golden; brother’s-in-law Floyd Chancey and Clarence Clark.

Mrs. Morris leaves to cherish her memory, her sons Mitchell Burke and Tim Burke (Tonya); and her daughter, Debbie Cox. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren: and several nieces and nephews.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Evans-Skipper Funeral Home.
