Shawna King wins ‘Best in Show’ at Artists’ Guild’s annual spring show

The Decatur County Artists’ Guild’s annual spring show began on Thursday evening with a reception held at the Firehouse Arts Center’s Jimmy Harrell Gallery. Lynn Davis, Art Director at the Firehouse, coordinated the show and reception. Members of the Guild submitted various forms of art which were judged by renowned Tallahassee artist Kenneth Reshard.
Shawna King, who is a self-taught artist, won the top award of Best in Show. Mrs. King enjoys painting portraits of her grandchildren. The portrait of her granddaughter, Reagan, won her the top award in the show.
Winners in each category were Photography – 1st place – Lauren Turner “Winter Morning”, 2nd Place- Linda Gisondi “Cascade Canyon”, 3rd Place- Linda Gisondi “Alaskan Pilot and Honorable Mention – Lauren Turner “Colors of Summer”. Two Dimensional – 1st Place- Evelyn Knight “Another Table Scape”, 2nd Place- Evelyn Knight “Copper Pot and Green Apples”, 3rd Place – Lynda Todaro “Natural History” and Honorable Mention- Bunny Jones “Spring Burst” Three Dimensional – 1st Place – Sharon Faulk “Raku Bottle”, 2nd Place- Sharon Faulk “ Ever Vigilant”
People’s Choice Award – Lyn Morales “ Tapestry of LIfe Veers Left”
Ms. Davis stated, “ We had a great show this year with excellent work from the Guild. We are excited to host this annual event to showcase the work of our local artists. We hope that the community will visit the Firehouse Arts Center over the next two weekends to view the work of these artists.” The exhibit is made possible by the generosity of the Edward and Lisabeth Fogg Charitable Trust. Decatur County Artists’ Guild is open to any artists interested in exhibiting their art and enhancing their artistic talents.
