Joyce Lynn Poitevint, 98, of Bainbridge, Ga., passed away Friday, December 13, 2019.

The graveside funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, December 15, 2019 at Oak City Cemetery with Rev. Chris Humphries officiating. Dutch Guest, Dan Williams, Andrew Lange, Steve Poitevint, Chuck Lynn and John Powell served as active pallbearers.

Joyce Lynn was born and reared in Decatur County. She was a graduate of Pine Hill High School in Decatur County and attended Port Arthur Business and Radio College in Port Arthur, Texas. She worked at the Bainbridge Air Force Training Base Hospital before transferring to the Air Force Base in Marianna, Fla.

In 1942, Joyce married Alec Loyd Poitevint. After World War II, they moved to Athens, Ga. where he attended the University of Georgia and she managed the University Post Office. They returned to Bainbridge in 1947 at which time Joyce became involved in many community activities. She was a member of First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and held numerous positions of leadership over the years. She was involved with the PTA, Rose Garden Club, The Bainbridge Service Club of Rotary, and the Ladies Golf Association at Bainbridge Country Club.

Survivors include her two children, Alec Loyd Poitevint II (Doreen) of Bainbridge, and Lynn Poitevint Lee (George) of Tifton, Ga.; her four granddaughters, Katie Poitevint Butte (Aaron), Meg Poitevint Lange (Andrew), Mary Beth Lee Guest (Dutch) and Melissa Lee Williams (Dan); her five great-grandchildren, Daniel & Davie Butte, Tilton Lange, Sarah Beth and Mack Guest; and many very special nieces and nephews. Joyce Lynn Poitevint was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Tilton & Ada Hatcher Lynn; her husband, Alec Loyd Poitevint; her siblings, Willie Mae McCann, Idus Lynn, C. T. Lynn, Inez Powell, Thelma Floyd, Frank O. Lynn, Christal Lynn and Earnestine Reed.
