Mrs. Frances Ward Bird, age 73, passed away Saturday, July 29, 2017, after a long battle with cancer, at the Ogeechee Area Hospice Inpatient Facility surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Bird, a native of Bainbridge, Georgia, graduated from Bainbridge High School in 1962. She graduated from Georgia Southern College in 1966, with a Bachelor of Education degree and obtained her Master of Education degree from Georgia College and State University. Mrs. Bird retired after 27 years of teaching mathematics throughout both the U.S. and Europe. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, traveling, spending time at the beach and with her grandbabies.
Survivors include her husband of 47 years, Graham Bird, Ellijay, Ga.; two daughters, Ashley Osborne (Aaron), Atlanta, and Alison Liggin (Len), Americus, Ga.; three grandsons, Graham Liggin, Logan Osborne and Mason Osborne; a sister Linda Maynard, Greensboro, N.C.; sister-in-law Marion Bird Martin, Register; four nieces; one nephew and many cousins also survive.
A memorial service and interment will be held at Ivey Funeral Home in Bainbridge on September 24, 2017, at 2 p.m. The family requests that memorial contributions may be made to Ogeechee Area Hospice, P.O. Box 531, Statesboro, GA 30459.
