The Bainbridge baseball team handled Brookwood with ease on Monday, March 6, following the Recreation Authority Opening Ceremonies. The Bearcats started slow, but exploded later for a 14-4 victory.
The Bearcats found themselves down two at the end of the first inning, and continued their slow start through the second inning.
It took until the third inning for the Bearcats to really find their rhythm. Pitcher Walt Burrell struck out two of four Brookwood batters in the inning and in the bottom of the third, the Bearcats found their offense.
With one out and one run on first, Noah Bryant stepped up and hit a double to score the first Bearcat run of the night. A walk and a hit by pitch loaded the bases for the Bearcats after their first run.
Griffin Long then hit a double that scored Sam Boutwell and Keith Lyle. Bainbridge was now leading 3-2. A sacrifice fly and another single in the inning scored two more runs to put Bainbridge up 5-2.
The Bearcats continued to pour on runs in the bottom of the fourth. With bases loaded, Will Kelley homers over the center field wall for a grand slam that separated the score line even more. Bainbridge scored two other runs in the inning before it was all over. The Bearcats led 11-2 going into the fifth inning.
Bainbridge gave up two runs in the fifth after changing to pitcher Ross Parker to make the score 11-4.
The Bearcats scored one more in the bottom of the fifth to make the score 12-4 before scoring the final two runs needed for the ten run rule in the bottom of the sixth.
The Bearcats improved to 5-2 on the season.
