The University of Alabama has been compared to the death star of college football, and Nick Saban is the Darth Vader. It is an unstoppable force that teams have to face each week that just rolls over opponents and continues moving.

Well, this year Clemson was the Luke Skywalker that blew up the death star, and everyone rejoiced. The celebrations should be short lived, because its already been rebuilt.

This year’s recruiting class that Nick Saban has signed has the potential to be lethal. The tide added 26 new players this year, and an astonishing 21 of them are in the ESPN top 300 ranking. 21 of them are coveted four-stars according to the ESPN ranking system. There are some recruiting services that show Alabama signing three five-stars on the offensive line alone.

It’s hard to even fathom that level of dominance. Objectively, I don’t even understand it. I can’t imagine selling that to a player on the recruiting trail, try telling an 18 year-old superstar that he may not even be a superstar because of the level of competition. What makes them decide to go for that?

In a biased way I absolutely love it. I can understand it after spending my time in Tuscaloosa. Saban has built a machine that only the best can play at, and if you want to be the best you have to compete against the best. Good luck, everyone.

The death star is not only rebuilt, but it seems to be stronger than ever after this class.

I don’t mean this column to fire up a debate about the upcoming season this early, but if I were I have 21 four-stars to back it up.
