Janet Brown McSmith, 75, of Tallahassee, Fla., passed away Thursday, October 8, 2015 at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 10, 2015 at Ivey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Donna Sue Roberts officiating. Interment will follow at Cool Springs Cemetery with Billy Brown, Greg Brown, James Earl Spooner, Doug Marsh, Joe King, and Perry Holden serving as active pallbearers.

Mrs. McSmith was born May 14, 1940 in Bainbridge, GA, the daughter of Herbert Brown and Bessie Blount Brown. She married Robert Lee “Bob” McSmith, Sr. in September of 1962. She lived most of her life in South Georgia/North Florida. Janet was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Tallahassee, FL.
Mrs. McSmith was a graduate of Quincy High School and worked for a short time with the FBI in Wasington, D.C. and retired from the Department of Pari-Mutuel Wagering for the State of Florida. Janet loved life, her family, and her church. Janet spent countless hours preparing items for the needy by washing and folding clothes in her home prior to serving hours on end at the Calvary UMC Clothing Closet. Her passion for helping those in need extended to animals. She never missed an opportunity to house a stray dog. Janet McSmith made a lasting impression on every person she met with her incredibly big heart and kind spirit.
Survivors include her husband, Bob McSmith of Tallahassee; her children, Donna Holden and her husband, Perry, of Lincoln, Arkansas and Robby McSmith of Faceville; her brother, Howell Brown and his wife, Alice, of Attapulgus, and her grandchildren, Tyler Holden and Dallyn Holden as well as many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. McSmith was preceded in death by her parents, an infant sister and brother, and her grandson, Clayton Holden.
