Funeral services for Melton Lafayette Perkins, 85, of Whigham, Ga., were at 2 p.m., Tuesday, March 17, 2015, at Pisgah Primitive Baptist Church, Climax, Ga.  Elder Thad Marshall officiated.  Interment was in Pisgah Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. Mr. Perkins passed away at his home in Decatur County, Ga., on Saturday, March 14, 2015.
Active pallbearers were Jerry Jones, Randall Jones, Mike Cox, Casey Cliett, Kenny Stavely, Randy Moore and Emory Moore and Carey VanLandingham.
Mr. Perkins was born on February 14, 1930, in Whigham, to the late Lemuel L. Perkins and Mary Ethel McCray Perkins.  On January 21, 1953, he married Mary Eloise Poppell Perkins, who survives.  He served in the U.S. Army.  He was a machinist and lifetime farmer.  He was a devoted member of Pisgah Primitive Baptist Church.
Survivors include: his wife, Mary Eloise Perkins of Whigham; son and daughter-in-law, Steve L. and Cheryl Perkins of Whigham; daughters and sons-in-law, Sheryl and Darrell Cliett of Cairo, Helen and Jimmy Cox of Climax, Joy Perkins of Bogart, Ga., Kim and Tim Ezell of Climax; grandchildren and spouses, Casey and Jennifer Cliett of Cairo, Karrie Cliett of Cairo,  Krista and Paul Hinchey of Nashville, Tenn., Michael and Christina Cox of Albany, Ga., April Perkins of Whigham, Steven Perkins of Whigham; great-grandchildren, Madison Cliett, Mallorie Cliett, both of Cairo, Adelaine Hinchey of Nashville, Tenn.; sisters, Catherine Naylor of Bainbridge, Mildred Jones of Climax, Almarie Pollock of Cairo; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Michael Melton Perkins; brother, Lloyd Perkins; sisters, Ella Jones, Roma Mills.

The family received friends at Pisgah Primitive Baptist Church on Tuesday, March 17, 2015, from 1 p.m. until the funeral hour.
