Several volunteers are coming together Saturday morning to raise funds for the Decatur County Humane Society and they are doing it in a spicy way.
Larry Strickland and Jeff Rouse have organized the Decatur County Humane Society Chili Cook-Off Saturday, Feb. 15 in the Winn Dixie parking lot in Bainbridge.
For an entry fee of $15 participants have the opportunity to pay an additional $5 for all-you-can-eat chili and play judge in the competition, picking and critiquing their favorite.
“Over there at the Humane Society, they are in constant need,” Strickland said. “We just wanted to do something to help them and there is almost no cost to this fundraiser so all of the proceeds are going to help the animals get supplies and find homes.”
Strickland said that anyone could enter as a chef or cooking team up until the day of competition.
“If they want to they can just show up before we start cooking Saturday and sign up,” Strickland said. “We have room for more teams.”
The competition begins at 8 a.m. in the Winn Dixie parking lot where teams will begin cooking on site. The judging and eating portion of the competition will begin at 12:30 p.m.
There will be trophies for the first place cooking team as well as the runner up.
Strickland said people can also drop off donations and pet food at the site to help as well.
