Clara Frances Hough Howard, 96, of Athens, Ga., passed away Sunday, October 21, 2012, at St. Mary’s Hospice House, in Athens.
The graveside funeral service will be held Wednesday, October 24, at 11 a.m., at Oak City Cemetery in Bainbridge, with the Rev. Paul Medley officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 23, at Ivey Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Bainbridge, P.O. Box 155, Bainbridge, Ga. 39818 or a charity of one’s choice.
Mrs. Howard was born Feb. 4, 1916 in Webster County, La., the daughter of Mary Alice Hough and Samuel Muriel Hough, and she grew up in Bethune, S.C. In 1943, she married the late Eugene Horace Howard. They moved to Bainbridge in 1953. She worked for many years at The Citizens Bank and Trust Co. and was an active member of the First Baptist Church and the Lydia Sunday School Class.
Survivors include her son, Eugene H. Howard Jr. and his wife, Margaret, of Athens; her granddaughters, Cate Howard Davis and her husband, Trey, of Concord, N.C., Anne Howard Thompson and her husband, Jim, of Charlotte, N.C., and Elizabeth Howard of Athens; her three great-grandchildren, Sam Davis of Concord, Will Davis of Concord, and Caroline Thompson of Charlotte; and several nieces and nephews.
