Former Bainbridge High School Bearcats placekicker and punter Keenan Adams, a freshman with the Colorado State University Rams, is in competition for the team’s field goal and placekicking duties.

Colorado State coach Jim McElwain told the school’s web site that the kicking competition is “the first position competition” of fall camp.

The CSU Rams begin their 2012 season against in-state rival Colorado on Sept. 1 in Denver, at 4 p.m. Eastern Time. The game will be televised on the FX network.

“The spot for field goal and place kicking is up for grabs and it is a two-way competition between freshman Keenan Adams and walk-on Jared Roberts,” McElwain said. “A little battle only makes you stronger.”

As a Bearcats junior in 2009, Adams hit a school-record-setting field goal of 52 yards against Cairo, made the coaches’ first-team All-Region 1-AAAA team as a punter and place kicker, and was named to both The Atlanta Journal-Constitution and Georgia Sportswriters Association’s All-State first teams as a punter.

For the season, he led Region 1-AAAA in punting with a 39.8-yard average. He had five punts inside the 20-yard-line and a long punt of 61 yards.

Adams’ 2010 senior season was shortened by a knee injury.

With the Rams, Adams wears jersey number 95. He is listed at five feet, ten inches and 185 pounds. He currently doesn’t have a major, but hopes to pursue a career in sports medicine after his playing days are over.

He is the son of Roy and Maggie Adams of Bainbridge.
