BAINBRIDGE LEISURE SERVICES Department’s 14-and-under softball All-Stars gather following their outstanding season. Shown are: front row, left to right, Ty Gant, Tykira Adams, Jeri Sloan, Reilly Fletcher, MaCayla Kirkland, Lindsey Duke and Grace Powell; back row, left to right, coach April Powell, Mary Trawick, Makayla Boone, Grace McIntosh, coach Beth Sloan, Taylor Jackson and Ansley Stuart.

Right hander Jeri Sloan of the Bainbridge Leisure Services Department’s 14-year-old and under softball All-Stars pitched a 12-0 no-hitter over Crisp County on June 26, to nail down a second-place District 3 Georgia Recreation and Parks Association (GRPA) finish at Bill Reynolds Sports Park.

They also recently finished third in the state tournament, losing only to state champion Lee County and second-place Wayne County. That tournament was also held in Bainbridge, from July 11 through July 14.

Tykira Adams had a key RBI single against Lee County and Taylor Jackson and Reilly Fletcher reached on walks and scored against Wayne County.

Beth Sloan, the no hit pitcher’s coach and mother, said not even a power failure on Tuesday, June 26, was able to stop the no-hitter.

“My daughter was pitching a no-hitter when an accident caused the ball park lights to go out,” she said. “She was pitching a perfect game with one out in the final inning.

“The first batter she faced following the delay reached on an error, but she  struck out  the second one and caught the third ones pop up to end the game.

“We had a great group of girls who got along well and worked hard.

“It’s a credit to them that their only two losses were to the state’s first- and second-place teams. I was proud of all of them.”
