Bainbridge High School Bearcats head basketball coach Rickey McCullough is teaching third- through eighth-graders the fundamentals of the game Tuesday through Thursday this week at the Bainbridge-Decatur County YMCA.
They have been learning by participating in on-court competitions at his YMCA camp. Camp sessions begin each day at 9 a.m. and conclude at noon. Along with playing games, the campers participated in “hot shot” and free throw shooting competitions.
In the hot shot shooting competition, shooters were divided into 8-and-9-year-old, 10-and 11-year-old and 12-to-14-year-old divisions.
Assisting McCullough with camp instruction were a number of his former players, who are currently, or will be soon be playing on the college level.
They included Antroine Williford, who played at Armstrong Atlantic, James Lodman, who played at Albany State, and Marquis Willams, who will play at Fort Valley State.
Also helping with camp instruction were Devin Baukman, who plays at Gulf Coast Community College in Panama City, Fla., and Trea Kelly, who will play at Columbus State University.
“It’s great to have our former players come back and help the young kids,” McCullough said. “The kids really look up to them.”
