Brian McCorkle, who led the Bainbridge Middle School Bearcats baseball team to a 13-6 record in 2012, has been named the Bainbridge High School Bearcats head baseball coach.
He replaces Scott Miller, who stepped down recently after nine years as Bearcats head coach.
McCorkle and Bainbridge High School athletic director Stan Killough both praised Miller for his years of strong work with the baseball team.
“Coach Miller is a high-caliber person and it has been an honor for me to work with him,” McCorkle said. “His friendship is very special.”
“Coach Miller has done a good job as our head baseball coach,” Killough said. “He has been a positive influence on a lot of young men in baseball and in life.
“I am sure coach McCorkle will also do a good job as our Bearcats head baseball coach. He is a very dedicated and hard working person.”
A 1995 graduate of Cairo High School, McCorkle has been a part of the Bearcats baseball program for two years. He also coaches the Bearcat football team’s defensive line.
McCorkle earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Valdosta State University in political science.
Before joining the baseball staff, he spent one year as head coach of the Bearcats soccer team. He also previously coached at Albany High School and Pelham High School.
He spent one year as baseball varsity assistant coach before heading up the Bearcats middle school program this year.
McCorkle is married to the former Michelle Pittman of Bainbridge and they have two sons: William, 8, and Lee, 6.
McCorkle said he plans to continue working hard and continue to motivate the players.
