BHS choral students honored

Bainbridge High School’s Department of Choral Arts students entertained the audience at Morningside Baptist Church on Thusday, May 10, as they performed in the annual spring concert.

Following the concert, Choral Director Claritha Jacobs presented the students with their awards.

The concert featured performances by the BHS Chorale, the Bella Canta Ensemble and the Concert Choir. The music was varied and included several different styles and languages, including French and African Swahili.

In the finale, members of all three chorus groups joined together to perform South African freedom songs titled “Tshotsholoza” and “Siyahamba.”

The BHS Chorale performed “The Lonely Sea” by Vicki Turner Courtney, and “Gabi, Gabi,” a South African freedom song. The Bella Canta Ensemble performed “Bella Bimba” by Robert DeCormier, “Mouse Madrigal” by Steven Porter and “J’entends le Moulin” by Donald Patriquin. The Concert Choir performed “The Gift of Love” by Hal H. Hopson, and “With a Voice of Singing” by Kenneth Jennings.

BHS Choral members were Latavius Baker, Alexis Cooper, Destiny Dumas, Sonja Francis, Tiarra Gilbert, Latavious Heard, Quaterria Jackson, Terrence Kinder, Shakirea Levatte, Akira Levens, Ethan Martin, Kaylne Murphy, Patra Parris, Victoria Regan, Jasmine Smart, Amaris Smith and Shatavia Smith. Bella Canta Ensemble members were Karenza Baker, Ciara Barthel, Marissa Byrd, Haley Chandler, Destini Dawkins, Senobia Gilbert, Alesha Goss, Porsha Griffin, Lindsey Kennedy, Elizabeth Lewis, Jessica Rogers, Allison Samuel, Rebecca Schoeneman, Jasmine Sheffield and Kiwana Williams. The Concert Choir was Daniel Farmer, Re’Quan Parris, Darius Peterson, Chelsey Richardson, Karenza Baker, Ciara Barthel, Marissa Byrd, Haley Chandler, Destini Dawkins, Senobia Gilbert, Alesha Goss, Porsha Griffin, Lindsey Kennedy, Elizabeth Lewis, Jessica Rogers, Allison Samuel, Jasmine Sheffield and Kiwana Williams.

Award winners were as follows:

• Service Award — Alexis Cooper, Shatavis Smith, Latavious Heard, Ciara Barthel, Kiwana Williams, Darius Peterson, Alesha Goss, Jasmine Sheffield, Daniel Farmer.

• Choral Spirit Award — Destiny Dumas, Sonja Francis, Alexis Cooper, Shakirea Levatte, Shatavia Smith, Haley Chandler, Lindsey Kennedy, Jessica Rogers, Rebecca Schoeneman, Darius Peterson, Daniel Farmer.

• Most Improved — Destiny Dumas, Karenza Baker, Allison Samuel.

• Honor Musicians — Sonja Francis, Ethan Martin, Allison Samuel, Elizabeth Lewis, Re’Quan Parris.

• All-State Students — Allison Samuel, Elizabeth Lewis (five years), Re’Quan Parris (four years).

• All Eight Semesters — Ciara Barthel.

• Seven Semesters — Senobia Gilbert, Lindsey Kennedy, Jessica Rogers.

• Six Semesters — Rebecca Schoeneman.

• Heart Award — Rebecca Schoeneman.

• Director’s Award — Elizabeth Lewis.
