Linebackers still impressing

Coach Ed Pilcher has been especially impressed by his linebackers’ play, as the Bainbridge High School Bearcats continue spring practice workouts.

“Our three senior linebackers, B.J. Cheatem, Marshall Mack and Jamez Harris are really doing a good job of running to the football,” Bearcats head coach Ed Pilcher said Friday morning.

“Offensively we are rotating junior Preston Norris and senior Cameron McDowell at quarterback. We will continue to do that the rest of spring. They are both doing some good things. Cameron is also getting some reps at defensive back so he can stay sharp over there.

“Our two senior running backs Damian Bouie and Terry Lewis are both running hard and picking up yardage, and our veteran offensive line is doing a good job of blocking for them.”

Pilcher’s split-back veer offense emphasizes the running game.

“The good thing about the spring is you don’t have to put in a game plan so you can work on fundamentals every day,” Pilcher said.

The Bearcats were unable to practice on Wednesday due to the rain, and they will make up the missed day next Thursday. The 10 days of spring practice were originally scheduled to conclude next Wednesday.

“We will have some kind of controlled scrimmage on our last day next Thursday,” Pilcher said. “We will just have to see how things work out.

“The pace and intensity of our practices have stepped up, and that is always good in the spring.”
